Time for a break... This page is not about work.

Although my leisure time is getting each year more scarce, I try to bring the Latin proverb "Mens sana in corpore sano" into practice. In the past, I enjoyed playing competitive tennis for several regional tennis clubs (highest ranking was B 2).

For the last 20 years, I have switched my attention to triatlon. I have participated in over 100 triathlons, including sprint triatlons (1/8 triathlon), Olympic Distance triatlons (1/4 triatlon), 1/2 triatlons, and eight full distance ironman triatlons (including the world championships Ironman triatlon in Hawaii). I especially like hilly triatlons such as the ones in Gérardmer and Alpe d’Huez. See some pictures of triatlons on this page.

I also enjoy doing these three sports in separate events such as running (5K, 10K, 21K, marathons), open water swimming competitions (e.g., Damme-Brugge), and tour cycling (e.g., Ronde Van Vlaanderen, Luik- Bastenaken - Luik).

During the holidays, I enjoy traveling to foreign countries and cultures. I visited among others Antarctica, Alaska, Argentina, Chile, Nepal, Ladakh, Peru, Tasmania, New Zealand, Georgia (country), Iceland, Japan, Namibia, Hawaii, Jordan, Scotland, Cabo Verde, Oman, Canada, Switzerland, Kyrgyzstan, Tanzania, the Maldives, and South Africa. Besides their fantastic scenery those countries represent a paradise for hiking and adventure.

I am also a movie and music aficionado. In the last years, I have been listening a lot to Yeasayer, Efterklang, Jamie Woon, Nicolas Jaar, A.A. Bondy, Kiasmos, Cass McCombs, Strand of Oaks, and John Talabot. All-time favorite artists further include Boards of Canada, Bonnie Prince Billy, Cesaria Evora, Gavin Friday, Girls vs. Boys, Hüsker Du, Dr. Octagon, Kruder & Dorfmeister, Kyuss, Latin Playboys, Masters of Reality, Morphine, My Bloody Valentine, My Morning Jacket, Nithin Sawthney, Pavement, Portishead, Richie Hawtin, Silicone Soul, Smog, Sonic Youth, The Fall, The Flaming Lips, The Herbaliser, The Knife (Fever Ray), Tricky, Tom Waits, Billy Bragg, Neil Young, Ed Kuepper, Nick Cave, John Cale, Bob Dylan, Ariel Pink, and Matt Johnson.
